Most people associate Venice with canals and gondolas but did you know that it is one of Avis’ busiest locations in Europe? The question that springs to mind is why do you need a car when there aren’t any roads? Well, Venice Marco Polo airport is a great base for exploring the north of Italy, including the regions of Veneto and Lombardy and cities such as Bologna, Padua and Milan, as well as Venice itself.
Marco Polo airport has one terminal and the Avis desk is conveniently located in the arrivals hall. It’s open from 8am to midnight and once you’ve completed your paperwork, it’s only a short walk to the car park to pick up your vehicle. Like most of our airports, we also have a dedicated Avis Preferred line at the desk, for those of you in a hurry!
One of the best sites I’ve found for information about Venice itself is Time Out. It gives you loads of information about eating, drinking, sightseeing and shopping so you can plan your trip. I have also got a personal recommendation from one of my colleagues who has just returned from Venice. For great food and wine he recommended the Trattoria Dall’Amelia (Via Miranese 113).
If you are visiting the city, please remember to park at the car park outside of town! It’s much nicer to travel around the city in a gondola and we don’t want to have to tow our cars from the canals.

Do Avis accept EC cards drawn on the German Sparkasse bank for car hire in England?
I would love a fast response if possible, as this is an urgent request.

Why do not car-hire company’s give contact phone numbers?
The numbers that are shown ( sometimes ) are usually not accessible from outside of the UK.

Hi William, unfortunately this card is not accepted in the UK. Full information on accepted credit cards is available on this blog post: http://wetryharder.co.uk/?p=253.
With regards to a telephone number, can you advise which country you need to make the phone call from? I’ll then post the telephone number for the Reservation Centre in that country.

When I return a rent-a-car at venice airport (one way from rome), do I just drive to the airport, or find a sign of rent-a-car return as same as other airports?
The map on your web site below indicates different place as avis venice office.

Hi Akio,
Venice airport is quite small and they have told me that yes you simply need to follow the “Car rental return” signs to the parking lot.
I hope you have a nice time!

I have a car, rented from Avis in Italy(on Treviso airport – if it makes any difference). Is there any problem if I go to Ljubljana for a weekend?

Hi Jakub,
Yes you can drive into Slovenia but only with certain car groups, what type of car have you got? To drive on the Slovenian highways you also need to buy a blue road stamp which costs €35 and can be bought in tobacco shops, gas stations and newspaper shops once you enter Slovenia. It is very important that you buy this stamp and keep it displayed in the windscreen at all times as the fines for not doing so are very high!

Hi Stephen
I’m keen to hire a car from Venice but I can’t see anywhere on the site if the GPS allows you to choose an English speaking option. Please advise.
Thanks

I’m planning on renting a car in Vienna and returning it in Venice – do I need to buy a highway tax sticker for Italy?
Also, is the Venice downtown location easy to access?
May 25th, 2010 at 10:02 am
Hello,
I am not aware of any highway tax sticker to drive in Italy, however if there is any tolls to pay you must pay these at the toll yourself.
Regards your question about the location, all of our locations are well signposted and if you follow this link: http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=es&tab=wl&q=Piazzale%20Roma%20496%20G you will see the map of the location. Also, the address is Avis Venice, Piazzale Roma 496 G,Venezia,30100.
Hope this helps

Hi, I’d like to book a specific car for a day: the new fiat 500 to drive around the Veneto. Is it possible? most of the other rental co’s dont guarantee a model.
