I am pleased to announce that Avis UK has launched its “Home Delivery” service across the UK. Designed to make the car rental experience more convenient, Avis customers can now request for their rental car to be delivered directly to their home and for it to be collected again at the end of the car hire period.
Avis Home Delivery is ideal for customers that don’t really have the time to pick a hire car up, particularly when they don’t live near a station. It offers them a convenient service and at just £10 each way, it’s great value for money. This time-saving product is available to UK households across the country* between 08:00 and 18:00, six days a week.
For more details or to make a reservation visit www.avis.co.uk/homedelivery or call 0844 581 8181.
* Available across the country, with the exception of London

I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again, I simply do not understand why you have excluded the UK capital of all places from this service?
What annoys me even more is that you sent out an email earlier today announcing the “new” service across the country, then is the (very)small print you mentioned excludes certain postcodes…
Why not just say, London excluded???
Moreover, can you tell me why HA8 for example which is not a London postcode is excluded as well?
This is so frustrating, I am a President Club members renting from you guys more times a year then I care to remember and been waiting for this service for a very long time, but now that you offer it, I can’t enjoy it.
Just great…

Hi Robert,
Apologies for not making the geographic restrictions clearer. There are essentially two reasons for our not (currently) offering the service within London.
Firstly, the logistical challenges of delivering and collecting in London (traffic, congestion charging, and in particular parking restrictions) make it difficult to offer the service on an economic basis. Secondly, and more importantly, our strict security process makes London a difficult market to serve. You’ll forgive me for not going into too much detail on the precise mechanics but since the last time we offered Home Delivery we have developed a much improved process to protect ourselves against fraudulent renters (a sad but very real risk to our business). Despite this new process we still view greater London (ie all the areas served by our London locations, including your postcode) as too risky from a fraud perspective.
I can appreciate this is frustrating, and clearly you’re one of our most loyal customers and not a fraud risk. We’re working hard to address both these issues – so watch this space.
Kind regards, Nick

I would just like to know why that Avis Charge for delivery and yet another leading company do not charge, They come and collect you and take you back home at the end of the hire all for FREE.. Come on avis Offer somthing to entise me to come to you more as i have to flit from you and them, and by the way i have just paid you guys £10.00
Just a note why is Roberts address more a fraud risk than mine???? i dont see the difference, Fraud happens in all postal codes..

My company regularly use this service to rent cars for business purposes and in general its excellent. However I recently tried to book an automatic car (class C or D) to be delivered to my home (over a week in advance) to be told that the branch couldnt provide one ! What is the point in advertising a range of vehicles when specific variations are unavailable ?

Hi Andrew, apologies for the late reply on this one.
The price of Home Delivery reflects the cost of offering this service. The service we offer is different to the competitor one you mention in that we offer customers the convenience of having the car delivered directly to the customer’s door rather than collecting the customer and bringing them to the rental office. Do you have any thoughts on what else we should be offering? Are there other services? Should we offer a “pick up” service?
With regards to the risk of fraud, our policy is based on our own experience of where we’ve been exposed to fraud. But of course London would be a very good market for Home Delivery so absolutely it is something we are looking to address! Watch this space…
