So since I've got home I've made a real effort to go out and see more of it! I heard about the glow-worm cave in Te Anau although I didn't get a chance to go see it (but I heard lots of great things about it). I did, however, go to the glow-worm cave at the Waitomo Caves on the North Island. And that was spectacular! Wellington is a great city too. I loved the Te Papa museum. The giant squid was awesome!! :) @Lindsay – it’s the same in this country. So since I’ve got home I’ve made a real effort to go out and see more of it!

I just completed a very similar trip last week, had an absolutely brilliant time. Worth doing the glow-worm cave trip while you're in Te Anau as well. Very true what you say about the locals not seeing their own country: I live in Wellington and constantly come across people who've never bothered seeing the South Island.
