It is really great to see so many people at Avis get involved in local community projects and charity fundraising around the country. Our nominated charity is MacMillan Cancer Support and they give invaluable support for people living with cancer by providing information, self-help groups, carer support and financial assistance. Over the year we run a number of events to raise as much as we can to support them. Last weekend 30 members of our team in Scotland braved the elements as they walked an Read More >>

Washing and valeting our cars in between hires can be a hectic job. The teams work very hard to make sure cars are spick and span every time for the next renter. They often find property people have left behind in the vehicles. Nothing more annoying than leaving your wallet or ipod in the car and not realising until you’re on the plane! We often get anguished phone calls from airside customers or customers who have arrived home and realised they left a CD in the car. Happily we’re al Read More >>
Despite growing red tape for British business, few could argue with the intentions of the Duty of Care legislation, although I do sympathise that this can create anxiety and confusion for businesses who are unsure about how to fulfil their obligations. I am talking about this on our blog because the legislation means that any vehicle being driven by an employee in a business capacity is considered a place of work and is therefore subject to Duty of Care. However, if the vehicle is a hire car it Read More >>
Over the weekend I was catching up with the travel news from the past week and read an article that should spell the end for the £1 cheap flights. As of May 10th the Office of Fair Trading will bring enforcement proceedings against any airline that fails to include all mandatory costs into its advertised prices. So from now you can be confident that, when you are told about a great deal on a flight, the price won’t double when all the taxes are thrown in! VN:F [1.9.8_1114]please wait...Rat Read More >>
Following a review of our satellite navigation product I am pleased to announce that we now have the Tom Tom One Europe available to rent at several Avis locations in the UK. I read a really positive review on the Stuff website about Tom Tom so, if you are like me and you want to avoid losing an hour of your life driving aimlessly around country roads south-east of Alderley Edge, you’ll see this as good news. Renting one of our Tom Toms in the UK costs £12.99* per day and we only charge f Read More >>
I am sad to announce that Warren Avis, the founder of Avis Rent A Car, has passed away aged 92. One of the reasons why I love working for Avis is its interesting history, a history that is coloured by bold, pioneering individuals whose legacy has shaped the Avis of today. Warren Avis was undoubtedly one of those individuals. He was a decorated pilot, serving in World War II with the US Army Air Corps. Legend has it that he was inspired to start up a car rental business during this service when Read More >>
At Avis we have strict service standards and processes in place. In my team, Customer Support, our objective is to respond to every single query that we receive and we aim to resolve the majority of customer queries within five working days. (Some issues will take longer, for instance if we have to investigate something with Avis in another country.) So I was disappointed to read a couple of comments on the blog where customers said they hadn’t received a response to a query they’d s Read More >>
Last week we were getting ready for the change in London’s Congestion Charge zone – sending out multi-language leaflets to our offices, replacing outdated information on the desks and displays, and requesting new posters. From Monday 19 February, the zone was extended westwards to include Kensington, Notting Hill, Chelsea and Pimlico, although the time for which it’s in force (now 7am to 6pm, Monday to Friday) was reduced by half an hour.
