Driving within the London Congestion Charge zone (07:00-18:00 Monday – Friday) incurs a charge. When you rent a car with Avis it is your responsibility to pay the charge within the delay specified by Transport for London or they will issue you with a penalty charge notice for which you will be liable.  Avis do not pay the charge for you so please do ensure you pay to avoid fines.

There are no charges on weekends, public holidays, between Christmas Day and New Years Day inclusive or between 18:01 – 06.59.

The zone covers central London extending from Hyde Park and Victoria in the West to Vauxhall and Elephant & Castle in the South, Tower Bridge and Commercial Street in the East and Euston and Regent’s Park in the North. It includes the West End, Westminster, Buckingham Palace, the City of London and Oxford Street amongst other areas.

Avis car rental in London and help with the Congestion Charge.

Avis has 13 different pick-up locations in central London and 5 airport locations. Take a look at all our London car hire locations for details and quotes.

We will be happy to arrange a permit for the first day of your rental and add this to your rental charges. However, you’ll need to organise Congestion Charge payments for subsequent days.

If you have arranged for an Avis rental car to be delivered or collected and we have to drive through to congestion zone to get to you, you will still be liable to pay the Congestion Charge. Similarly, if we attempt to deliver but are unable to, the same rule applies.

Paying the charge

The charge is between £9 and £12 per day depending on how and when you pay the charge. You only need to pay once for a single day no matter how many times you use the Congestion Charge zone during that day.

You can either pay in advance or on the day of travel. If you don’t pay by midnight on the day after you drove in the Congestion Charge zone, you’ll receive a Penalty Charge Notice.
