Hello Simon,

We categorise our fleet according to an industry standard car classification code. This takes a number of different factors into account some of which include the type of vehicle the size and even transition.
Taking all these variables into account, we placed the BMW in to the large compact range. We understand that it might not be as spacious as some of the other vehicles, but looking at the combined specs of the vehicle it does fit within this category.

I hope this gives you a general idea of how this process works.

I’m a bit confused as to how a BMW 1 series is clasified as a ‘large compact’.
please could you explain.

Hello Simon,

When booking a car from our standard fleet we can’t guarantee an specific make or model.

We have a wide range of fleet within our large compact D group class so it is highly possible you could get a BMW 1 Series, Peugeot 3008 or the Chevrolet Cruze.

What we don’t have in the group D of our UK fleet is the Mondeo, Mazda or the Vectra, so I do apologise for this incorrect information.

I hope this give a little more clarification as you what you can find in our large compact group D class.

Hi Rob,
I have booked a large comact class D vehicle, but on calling the rental station, am being told that I will get a bmw 1 series, or a chevrolet cruze. When I contacted your online chat hel desk, they said that the bmw 1 is not a class d, and that I should be getting one of eugeot 3008, mondeo, mazda 6, vectra 1.6.
Edinburgh tell me that these are the Euroean fleet, and that the uk fleet is different. Time to call Thrifty.

I have arranged the hire of a car from Avis late August and September 2010. I am advised it is an IDMREB Vauvhall Vectra or similar Intermediate Class , Manual with A/C. What does this equate to in your new simplified system please?

Hello Brian,

I have driven a Ford Focus a number of times and found the boot space sufficient for two medium bags and some extra bits and pieces. If you planned to carry a bit more I would suggest the group G Focus or similar estate group, which will more than hold all the luggage plus it has a pull screen to cover any things put in the back to deter thieves,

Hi Vicky,

You would need a people carrier for two child seats and a booster seat. With smaller cars you can put 2 child seats in the back, any more and you won’t have enough space even though you would have 3 seat belts.

I have arranged to hire a Ford Focus while in the UK in June 2010. I asked our travel agent to book a car with enough luggage space so that 2 medium and 2 carry-on bags would be hidden from view while parked. Is the Focus large enough? From the photo on your UK website it doesn’t appear to be. Please advise. Thanks.

I need a car that can fit two child seats and a booster seat across the back. Keen to avoid a people carrier if possible. Would we be able to fit into any of your slightly smaller models?
