You may have picked this news up from some of the recent commentary anyway, but I just thought I’d write a quick post to tell everyone that we now have the BMW 3 Series and 5 Series back on the Avis Select Series. The BMWs were immensely popular when we first introduced them so we’re delighted to have them back.
The 3 Series are a mix of 318d and 320d. They are also a mix of SEs and M Sports, although there are more M Sports than SEs. The 5 Series are all 520d SEs.
If you rent one of our BMWs and fancy writing a review (and, ideally, take a few photos) then please send it in to comments@avis.co.uk. If we publish it, we will sort you out with a free 3-day weekend rental in one of our 3 Series as a way of saying thanks (there are some terms and condition so email me if you are interested and I’ll send these over).

As I already mentioned in the fleet blog, great to see the BMW’s back with Avis, and looking forward to hiring them.
This indeed deserved a blog post of its own!
Correct me if I’m mistaken though, but both of them are new on the Select series are they not?
I seem to remember that the 3 series was in the same group as the Mercedes C class last time round, and not on the select series, but I might be wrong (happens sometimes…)
Rob can you clarify whether there are more 318d’s or 320d’? (Hopefully the latter…)
Also, please send me the T&C of that free offer…:-)
Thanks
Robert

They were definitely both in the Select Series for a while… around early Spring time… although for a period they were available on Select for “walk-ups” only due to a lack of availability.
Just over a 3rd of them are 320d’s.
I’ll email over the T&Cs!

Great news! Apart from when you book and pay for a 5 series and get an Audi A4 – only to be charged the same price as the system didnt allow the Avis rep to change the price. Still awaiting a reply from customer services.

Hi there,
I am hiring a 3 Series through Select in November this year through Mayfair in London. Is there anyway you can guarantee it to be a 320d with the M Sports styling
Any advice appreciated!

Hi Craig,
I’m afraid we cannot guarantee this but If you email your reservation number to comments@avis.co.uk then I’ll add a note to your booking so they will try their hardest to provide it on the day.

Hi there,
Why are the BMW’s not bookable anymore after Christmas? Are they being replaced?
Cheers

Hi Michael,
I see your post is over 2 weeks old but no one has replied to you, come on guys where are you…???
I have actually noticed this myself and was wondering the same.
Based on the BMW’s I have rented from Avis lately (currently driving a 5 series) they all seem to be 58 plates, so around a year old, which I would imagine means they are coming to the end of their life with Avis.
I do wonder whether Avis plan to get more of them or replace them with something else.
Regards,
Robert

Hi Michael,
Sorry for the delayed response.
We are currently looking at the Select Series fleet for 2010, but nothing has been finalised.
We will keep you updated as soon as we find out more.
Sorry I can’t be more help. But if you have any other questions please let me know.

Hi,
I was surprised to learn you have some Manual 318d’s on teh fleet…
Are there Manual 320d’s as well?
Also, which group the Manual 318d’s fall into?
I’m assuming they are not in the same group as the Auto’s, so would they be in the same group as the A4 Manuals?
Regards,
Robert

Any chance of getting some feedback on my post above re the 318d?
Thanks!

Reading this blog I am also interested to know about the 3 series bmw.
I have a booking for 2 weeks time and when making this booking the system told me the car was guaranteed and it was automatic.
is it possible I would be given a manual 3 series instead of an automatic?

Hi Robert,
Sorry for the delayed response.
We do indeed have some manual BMWs on fleet; the 318 SE and M Sport models. These actually fall in to the K group (Autos), as the BMWs were initially ring-fenced for a key corporate account.
I hope this helps

Thanks Harleen.
I am a little confused though how this fits in with the Select guarantee policy.
If the Manuals are in the same group as the Autos is it possible that someone will book a Select series Auto BMW 3 series but end up with a Manuel?
Which is what Karen is asking in the post above really…
Regrads,
Robert

Hi Robert
Thanks for your post. As you’re aware, we initially ringfenced the BMWs to a key corporate account so we grouped all the BMWs; manual and automatic; in to our K group. Now we’ve opened the BMW fleet up to leisure rentals, we will be moving the manuals in to our F group. You should notice the change from next week.
I hope that helps!

Thanks Harleen
Indeed it does thanks!
Picked up a 320d M Sport yesterday from LHE 57 plate with 32,000miles!
I don’t think I have ever had a car from Avis UK with us many miles as that, sign of the times I guess…
Still brilliant to drive though!
