Things to see and do in England
London: the one and only
No trip would be complete without a visit to the country’s capital: a haven for culture be it stage, screen or art. Perhaps you’ll catch a musical, or while away time at one of many free museums. Immerse yourself in history at the British Museum, art at the Tate Modern and Tate Britain or learn about the city itself at the Museum of London.
Once you’ve worked up an appetite sight-seeing, you’ll be spoilt for choice. The restaurant scene caters for every taste and budget - ranging from Michelin-starred fine dining to street food and pop-up restaurants. It’s a great city for families too, with London Zoo and Kew Gardens on your doorstep.
Of course nobody should leave London without watching the changing of the guard outside Buckingham Palace or seeing iconic buildings such as Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament.
Explore the great English countryside in your Avis rental car
The countryside has so much to offer. Rent a cottage, stay in a B&B or pitch a tent. Whatever you choose, Avis car hire is the right option to get you started. If it’s hiking you’re after, head north for the Lake District’s rugged peaks, the Peak District’s rolling hills or Yorkshire’s natural unspoilt National Parks.
If you fancy exploring the south, then the chalk hills of the South Downs could be just the ticket. There are also stunning coastlines: from the Jurassic coast, Dover’s white cliffs and Cornwall’s Lizard Peninsula in the south, to Northumberland’s rural coastlines in the north. Plus the unique scenery of the Norfolk Broads. Experience the holiday of a lifetime and spend the day touring this expanse of rivers and lakes by boat.
Towns and cities
Car rental is the perfect option for nipping between the different cities, towns and villages that are just waiting to welcome you. Soak up the contemporary living and diverse entertainment offered by regional greats such as Manchester, Birmingham, Newcastle, Leeds, Bristol or Nottingham.
