Canada is the second largest country in the world by area. It has lots of fantastic places to explore: Niagara Falls, the spectacular Vancouver scenery and historical, yet urban Montreal, - to name just a few; and hiring a car is the best option if you want to fully enjoy it.

The first thing that strikes the eye on Canadian roads is horizontal traffic lights. For left turns there is normally a separate traffic light, and often a lane separated from the others with a pavement. For right turns there are normally an offshoot starting before the turn itself.

Right turns on a red light are always possible if there are no other cars or pedestrians or restriction signs, but note that drivers are obliged to stop and look around before making this turn.

Speed limits are often lower than in the UK and in KM. In cities traffic is slow moving and it’s easy to move between the several lanes of traffic that often occupy main roads.

At uncontrolled intersections you should always give way to traffic on the right, whether it is a 3-way intersection or not.
