Plan your journey from Tenerife Playa De Las AmericasIf you’re looking for a holiday full of amusement and entertainment, Playa de las Americas is the place for you, and it’s easy to explore with an Avis rental.
Much of the city is filled with glamorous high-rise hotels and its main attraction is a 1km stretch of retailers, restaurants and bars called the Veronicas. This area is adorned with copies of Roman statues, giving it an eclectic look and feel, and boasts great nightlife. This is also the place to go to dine on traditional Canarian food, such as papas arrugadas (wrinkled potatoes), salt fish, and local goat’s cheese. Live cabaret shows are regularly performed in venues here.
Only a few kilometres away from the centre of the city is Siam Park, a huge waterpark that all the family can enjoy. Inside there’s relaxing wave pools, giant water slides, and even a man-made beach, ideal for spending an afternoon relaxing in the sun.
If you want to escape the bustle of the area, head to the Golf Las Americas golf course. With stunning views out to sea, it’s an unforgettable setting to play 18 holes.
Head out in your Avis rental car and explore Playa de las Americas at your own pace.
Beyond Tenerife Playa De Las AmericasDrive just a little outside of Playa de las Americas and you’ll find yourself immersed in Tenerife’s local island life.
Puerto de Santiago
This quaint fishing village, which lies on the west coast of the island, is just a 40-minute drive from Playa de las Americas. The beach here, Playa de la Arena, is a striking attraction as it’s made of soft black sand. There are a few restaurants by the beach which serve fresh seafood lunches, and a small fishing museum, which gives a great insight into the villagers’ traditional way of life.
Just ten minutes’ drive further north of Puerto de Santiago is Los Gigantes, a beach destination that’s as popular with locals as it is with tourists. The black-sand beach lies beneath impressively tall cliffs, the perfect spot for a sunset stroll. There’s also a public outdoor pool in the town with sun loungers for those who prefer to avoid the waves. The best way to spend an evening in this part of the island is a wander around the picturesque harbour before stopping for a coffee or a Canarian meal in one of the small restaurants.
Jump into your Avis hire car and explore the very best of Playa de las Americas and beyond.
