There are just 13 rooms at this upmarket boutique hotel, which opened in 2013. Owners Jerry and Sophie have created a luxurious retreat which is both bohemian and modern – with quirky décor and an honesty bar. The rooms are incredibly well kitted out, with Nespresso coffee machines and iPod docking stations. The property, once a farmhouse, feels wonderfully rural, although Ibiza town is just a ten-minute drive away.

The pretty northern village of San Juan is the setting for the Giri Residence, which has five suites. Book one and staff will go out of their way to make your stay a memorable one. You can dine wherever you want – by the beautiful pool or in the homely living room area – and Carlos, the chef, will happily prepare any dish you desire, picking up favourite ingredients at the local market. There’s also a gorgeous spa with double stone bathtubs, plunge pool and Jacuzzi. The hotel is secluded and intimate, although some of Ibiza’s best beaches are still within walking distance. Ibiza town is just a 25-minute drive away.

Mirador de Dalt Vila, Plaça d’Espanya

One of Ibiza’s larger boutique hotels, the Mirador de Dalt Vila is a converted nineteenth century family home, and it feels a million miles away from the chain hotels which dot the island’s busiest beaches. It can be found in Ibiza town’s oldest part, and the views of the historic port are breathtaking. No expense has been spared on the 12 rooms, which contain seven types of marble. The Grand Suite is the most spectacular – the furnishings were personally chosen by the Fajarnés family, who owns the hotel.

Pure House Ibiza, Ibiza Town

No matter how many flaming sambucas you’ve had, crashing out on a lumpy bed or being woken by a malfunctioning air conditioning unit will soon take the shine off your week in the sun. But this adults-only hotel, just two miles from Ibiza Town, is ideal if you’re planning on making the most of the nightlife whilst also exploring the area in your downtime. Highlights of Pure House Ibiza, which has just four rooms, include the enormous pool – surrounded by Balinese day beds and hammocks – and the rambling garden, which is filled with fragrant mango and orange trees.

The rooms have been all designed according to Feng Shui, with huge windows and generous balconies, but if you’ve got cash to splash, opt for a Cloud Nine suite – you’ll get outdoor bathtubs, enormous living areas and a private check-in.

Hacienda Na Xamena, Na Xamena

Popular with couples, Hacienda Na Xamena is perfect if you’re seeking privacy – it’s built into the side of a cliff and surrounded by pine trees. It was the first five-star hotel on the island (it opened 40 years ago), but the owners haven’t allowed standards to slip. It’s breathtakingly beautiful, with cascading pools, and private gardens for guests staying in Eden category rooms. It’s also popular with foodies, thanks largely to the vegetable garden and the chefs’ determination to use only local produce.
