Find your perfect hire car at New Delhi AirportIndia’s New Delhi is impossible to summarise in a few short words. Actually seven cities combined, it’s a bustling, chaotic mix of cultures and traditions. With its busy markets, delicious street food and ancient monuments, you’ll never be bored in New Delhi.
Pick up your Avis car hired at New Delhi Airport and head straight to the city.
Plan your journey from New Delhi AirportNew Delhi is a 20-minute drive via Sardar Patel Marg from New Delhi Airport. With its temples, bazaars, museums and empirical highlights, you’ll need to spend a good few days in this city to really get to know it.
Start at the 42-metre high India Gate, the centrepiece of Delhi, surrounded by lush gardens and plentiful picnic spots. Move on to the Red Fort in Old Delhi, one of the best Mughal monuments in town. The fort has 2km of walls surrounding it, built in the 1600s. There’s also the Qutab Minar, the world’s tallest brick minaret standing at 73 metres high.
Chandni Chowk is the place to really experience the hectic nature of this buzzing city. This main street in Old Delhi is overflowing with jewellery, clothing and electronic stores. Here you can also sample delicious Indian street food. Take your pick from all the stalls. Khan Market is another bazaar well worth visiting. Walk Paranthe Wali Gali or sample flat breads stuffed with everything imaginable. For more Delhi culture, visit the Crafts Museum or the National Gallery of Modern Art.
To see some of the city’s lesser-known parts, visit Lodi Gardens at dusk, listen to Islamic devotional singing at Nizamuddin, or visit the great fort of Purana Qila.
Beyond New Delhi AirportAfter experiencing the hustle and bustle of New Delhi’s frenzied streets, you don’t have to stray far to find a little bit of solitude in India’s interior.
Drive just under two hours from New Delhi (via NH24) and arrive in Kuchesar. This heritage village is known for its Mud Fort, built by Jat rulers in the 18th century. Over 200 acres of greenery surround the fort, which was built to protect the Jats from British attacks.
Vrindavan is just a two-hour drive via Taj Express Highway/Yamuna Expy from New Delhi. If you want to experience spirituality, this is the place to do so. Vrindavan is filled with temples dedicated to Krishna, as well as other divine structures like the Iskon, Mirabai and Gokulnanda temples. Next to Vrindavan is Mathura – Lord Krishna’s birthplace.
Neemrana Fort-Palace is also two hours from New Delhi down the NH8. Now considered one of the best resort destinations in India, the Neemrana Fort Palace is a 15th century heritage hotel. The palace has seven wings built over 12-tiered layers into a hillside and features hanging gardens, swimming pools, spas and even India’s first zip line.
