Billund is a small and charming town in the centre of Jutland, the large peninsula that makes up mainland Denmark. The area's quaint nature makes it the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of the country’s busier cities.
Seek out Bindeballe Købmandsgård, Denmark's largest merchant museum. A former traditional grocer's shop, established in 1897, the building houses fascinating examples of traditional merchandise from a time lost but not forgotten.
Visit the Karensminde Agricultural Museum where you can learn about 18th century farming techniques and, if you like, help the farmhands harvest the crops, milk the cows and cook food on the old woodstove.
Billund is also the home of the world's first ever Legoland. Opened in 1968, the theme park can be found next to the original Lego factory, which is also open for tours. Lalandia, a famous waterpark and activity centre in the town, is also worth a visit, and is a great stop for family road trips.
The area provides plenty of leisure activities, including golf. Fishing is also a popular hobby in the region's many rivers, lakes and streams. Billund's natural beauty is only ever a short drive away.

Kattegat coast On the Kattegat coast, you'll find an array of sandy beaches where the water is calm and shallow, and the weather temperate. Explore the fjords at Horsens and Vejle, both under an hour from Billund on Route 30 and Route 28 respectively, to find hidden bays that are perfect for relaxing, or a spot of swimming on a peaceful day.
Aalborg Separated from the northern part of the mainland by a shallow fjord, Aalborg, just over two hours from Billund on the E45, is a cultural hub that is like no other city in Denmark. There are theatres, opera houses, modern art museums, scenic parks and more. The waterfront is particularly picturesque, as are the cobbled lanes and half-timbered buildings that line the streets.
Skagen Skagen is the northernmost point of Denmark and is reached via the E45 from Billund. The old market town and fishing village are thought to date back over 600 years.
