Once you touch down at Aberdeen airport and pick up your hire car, you’ll be in the city in no time. Aberdeen is nestled amid beautiful countryside not far from some of Scotland’s most scenic coastlines, and there are numerous attractions and sights to explore both in and around the city. Make sure you see the best of them with an Avis hire car.
Known as the Granite City, discover more about this port city’s fascinating maritime history; stroll through the cobbled streets of the old town, enjoy the unique architecture, shopping and cultural spots, or venture beyond the city for boundless nature and epic skies.
One hour west brings you to Balmoral Castle, one of the stunning residences of the Royal Family. Other notable sights nearby include the fairy-tale Craigievar Castle and Haddo House - both within easy reach of the city by car. Those who love the great outdoors can drive north to revel in the scenery of Balmedie Country Park where a long sandy beach with towering dunes extends for miles.
Whether you are looking for an efficient economy car or a roomy family car, the Avis fleet has you covered.
Aberdeen to Balmoral
Balmoral Castle is a private residence of The Queen and the Royal Family, and with its decadent beauty and stunning surroundings, it’s really not hard to see why this was chosen as their home away from home.
Driving there from Aberdeen Airport couldn’t be easier, it’s a lovely 90-minute ride from Aberdeen, we would recommend stopping off along the way to take in the incredible scenery.
Once at Balmoral you’ll know why the Royals love it so much. The beautiful gardens, the architecture and stately rooms all combine to make Balmoral one of the best attractions in the whole of Scotland.
Aberdeen to Dundee
This route is known as the Angus Coastal Route. Starting at Aberdeen, head south and you’ll be greeted with breath-taking views of bonny Scotland. Along the way stop off at any one of the picturesque seaside towns such as Broughty Ferry, often referred to as the ‘jewel in Dundee’s crown’, a beautiful, sleepy seaside town and a great place to get away from it all.
