Credit Card Pre-Authorisation
Our standard pre-authorisation amount, which covers any additional costs resulting from your rental such as additional days or fuel, is calculated as follows:
(The vehicle rental price* + £300) MINUS (Any sum you have already paid when making a “Pay Now” booking)
* The vehicle rental price includes all optional extras you’ve requested, calculated at the start of the rental based on the intended length of the rental
For the avoidance of any doubt, any “Pay at Location” amount owed by a customer in relation to a vehicle rental (including any optional extras) will be taken as part of the pre-authorisation at pick up, and then only charged to the customer at the end of their rental (using the card provided for the purposes of the pre-authorisation, unless agreed otherwise).
What does this mean for me?
- At the point you collect your vehicle and start your rental, we will put a temporary hold of a pre-authorisation amount of £300 plus the estimated cost of your rental (less any prepaid amount) against the available balance on your payment card
- When you complete your rental and return the vehicle, the pre-authorisation funds will be released by your card issuer
- Depending on your card issuer, it can take up to 28 days before this is reflected in your account balance. Your card company and not the rental location is responsible for releasing pre-authorisation.
Please note – even though a pre-authorisation is not an actual charge, it will temporarily reduce the available balance on your payment card.
