Stockholm to Helsinki
The trip from Stockholm to Helsinki is certainly much easier if you fly. The two cities are separated by roughly 250 miles. However, if you want to take out a car rental and drive the whole way, you’ll need to go all the way around the Gulf of Bothnia. This racks your journey up to around 1,000 miles. It’s doable, but there are better options.
So, instead of driving all of those miles, you should incorporate a ferry trip into your journey. There are several 16-hour ferry connections that link Stockholm to Helsinki. Most leave in the afternoon and arrive the following morning. You can take your pick from The Viking Line, the Tallink Sija Line or the St.Peter Line. To reach the port, you’ll need to drive around 2-3 hours from Stockholm city centre to board a ferry with your car for the 16-hour journey.
Of course, when you’re not behind the wheel, you’ll have time to kick back and relax onboard. Take in the picture-perfect scenery across the Baltic Sea and the Gulf of Bothnia. If you’d prefer to drive through more of Finland, you can hop on a ferry from Stockholm to Abo, which takes around 10.5 hours. From here, you can journey south towards Helsinki by car as you pass through some seriously impressive scenery.
Stockholm to Dalsland
When it comes to a final destination, few places are as breathtaking as Dalsland. But what makes this trip even better is the beautiful scenery along the way. If you want to stay in Sweden for your road trip, this is most definitely a route you should consider.
From Stockholm, you’ll journey 258 miles, and it should take just under 5 hours to reach this incredible destination. The area is home to deep pine forests, tranquil lakes, white beaches and an impressive canal. You’ll enjoy views as far as the eye can see in every direction. If you’re a fan of outdoor activities, believe us when we say Dalsland is the place for you. With fishing, moose sightings and the lake Laxsjön at your feet, this a journey well worth taking.
From Dalsland, you can continue on to Koster Island, Sweden’s first marine national park, just 63 miles away.
Stockholm to Sundsvall
The route from Stockholm to Sundsvall will take you 235 miles north by car hire along the impressive coastline that runs along the Gulf of Bothnia. This super scenic route will take you through some great places to stop off along the way, including the cities of Uppsala and Galve.
You’ll pass through sleepy towns and mountainous areas as you take on the straight-forward but totally rewarding route north. Once you reach your destination of Sundsvall, you’ll find an open-air museum, the Sodra Stadsberget mountain peak and an abundance of peaceful lakes. From here, you can continue your journey north to reach the border of Finland. If you want to continue your epic road trip into Finland, this is a fantastic starting point.
Stockholm to Oslo
The drive from Stockholm to Oslo is equally as impressive as the rest. The journey will take around 6-7 hours and you’ll cover 310 miles along the way. Once you’ve reached Oslo, Norway, you’ll be treated to the most beautiful views across the North Sea. Of course, there are endless things to see and do in the city.
