Plan your journey from Ronaldsway
You’re just a five-minute drive from the ancient capital, Castletown. Settled on the south of the island, Castletown boasts one of the best-preserved medieval castles in Europe. With its imposing fortress, Castle Rushen is not to be missed.
Castletown also houses a fine selection of antique shops, restaurants and cosy pubs. Head to the pretty harbour where the Nautical Museum sits. This is a top attraction charting the story of the island’s maritime history.
A further 10-minute drive from Castletown (via the A5) is Port Erin. With its secluded bay and sheltered sandy beach, it’s popular with families and watersports enthusiasts. The Isle of Man Steam Railway line and the Port Erin Railway Museum also live here, offering visitors the chance to travel on the longest narrow gauge steam line in Britain. And don’t miss the impressive collection of transport memorabilia.
Port St Mary is also nearby and home to the island’s only golf course, as well as Cregneash – a “living museum” showing visitors what it was like to live in a typical 19th-century Manx crofting community.

Beyond Ronaldsway
The Isle of Man is a beautiful island located in the Irish Sea between Great Britain and Ireland. It offers a tranquil retreat with diverse landscapes, historic monuments and heritage railways.Douglas
Around a 25-minute drive from Ronaldsway (via the A5) is the island’s capital, Douglas. This pretty seaside resort, on the east of the island, is also a busy working port and offers a host of attractions including the Manx Museum. The Great Union Camera Obscura, an unusual Victorian curiosity, is well worth checking out. It works using a series of lenses and mirrors located at roof-level to project moving colour pictures of the surroundings.
Isle of Man Glens and Cashtal yn Ard
Boasting 18 mountain and coastal National Glens, it’s not surprising that the Isle of Man is so popular with artists and photographers. From Ronaldsway you’re less than a one-hour drive from Ballaglass Glen in Maughold, which boasts a spectacular waterfall and unusual plant life. Another nearby attraction is Cashtal yn Ard (Castle of the Heights) – a fascinating chambered tomb dating back to around 2,000 BC. This is one of the island’s most famous attractions.
Mooragh Park
Perched on the north of the island, Mooragh Park is around a 50-minute drive from Ronaldsway, via the A5 and A18. Boasting a 12-acre boating lake, kayaking, sailing and canoeing are readily available. If you’d rather stay on dry land, check out the BMX track and crazy golf course. There’s also a playground and water-play area for younger children.
Hiring an Avis car makes it a breeze to discover all that the Isle of Man has to offer.
